I am on a laptop hunt. And I can’t afford more than 25k at the moment. And the Acer Aspire 5315 seems like the dream I need right now. Except that, I need the parental seal of approval, and my dad has this vague obsession over the Compaq brand. Your first computer was compaq, your first laptop was compaq, so why acer, all of a sudden? This is his argument.
Sigh!
(And all this planning, when the cheque is in the mail! Whoever said I was pessimistic?)
for 25k, acer and compaq are probably better options…..
that model seems to be a linux-based system, if you dont have a problem with linux….things should be fine
just in case, check this out

Good value for money, One should be a laggard when it comes to technology, it keeps on evolving, and specially if your use is home and office segment the configuration will suffice.
go for it
Good Day, Meenu!
Let me suggest Compaq brand because your blog is a ‘national concern’ for many of the voiceless in India.
Compaq is more stable than Acer and will last longer. I think Compaq Presario F700 is one of the best value for money and closer to your budget. I tried F700 from my brother, they are surprisingly fast with its AMD chip. I found its built in WiFi as much powerful than my Toshiba Portege tablet PC.
Even F700’s NVIDIA GeForce display card is designed to run Windows Vista, it is possible install XP if you get the right technician.

Eh, linux shouldn’t be a problem bcoz I still have the windows xp i got with my old laptop. And I don’t have huge problems with pirated software too.
Vishal, what you say is true… But I am yet to choose.
CyberGandhi, thanks for your comment. I really wish my blog was more pro-active, but I have tried to keep all my politics away from this space. As you say, I think I will only end up with a Compaq. I need something that stays with me for a long time…
