Isaignani Ilayaraja

If I ever finish writing my Ph.d. thesis anytime soon, I think one of the foremost people who should take credit for it should be Maestro Ilayaraja… But for his soulful music and melodies, I wouldn’t even share a room with an ELT textbook!

Hi Meena!
Nice to see this post!
For me, the best definition for good music is that it must not disturb (if not augment) our routine work, when it is being played in the background.
In that way, I am sure you are not alone in feeling this way about Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s music!
With thanks & regards,
Vijay.
It used to be “A blog by a 24-year-old dalit woman obsessed with dr.ambedkar’s dream of caste annihilation”.. but now it is ‘…24-year-old tamil woman …”.
May I ask why the change; is this a conondrum about chosing between your dual dalit and tamil identities, the former subsumed under the latter by the recent happenings in eelam? Or is this something that was earlier ( I haven’t noticed when it changed) and caused by other reasons.
ஓ நீங்களும் ராசா விசிரியா? அவர் பாடல் இல்லாமல் பாதி பேர் தீசிஸ் முடிக்கமாட்டங்க!
Arvindh and Dr.Vijay Venkataraman,
Thanks for echoing my sentiments. There ought to be a really big fan club of Raja-songs-for-research and so on
dismalworld,
no, I always remember positing myself as a “tamil woman” obsessed with what is a “dalit demand” and the only change I consciously remember making is replacing “Tamil woman writer” with “tamil woman” (since the writer is an obvious identity)… The dalit identity comes through not just becoz someone is born in such-and-such a caste, but becoz they support caste annihilation.
But yes, the problems in Eelam have reflected in a big way on my writing. There’s more Tamil/nationalism/genocide related stuff that I have addressed as against dalit issues in this span of time.
Oh my ! That was my idea. (To credit Ilaiyaraaja if i produce some thing in my life ).
Ilaiyaraaja is one person who comes to this world and makes many people closer to him without even showing his face.
HI
I feel the same, Ilayaraja had been my friends for years…..
